FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UPCYCLED BIRDS OF CENTER SQUARE PROJECT ON DISPLAY FOR FIRST FRIDAY

Local artists will host open house display at 262 Lark Street for in-progress sculpture project using found materials and upcycled plastic flowerpots

ALBANY, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 19) — Tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 1 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. there will be an open house display of a work in progress at 262 Lark Street, a space purchased in 2017 by Jeff Buell of Redburn Development, along with Justin and Jennifer Miller of Lark Hall and Lark Street Yoga. A team of artists led by Chip Fasciana (a.k.a. Ferdbot) is in the process of building a series of bird sculptures inspired by area street names, including Lark, Jay, Dove, and more, using found and upcycled materials.

“The Upcycled Birds of Center Square project is taking an environmentally conscious approach to public sculpture. We’re not only looking to provide art for public beautification, but to use the project as a way to educate the youth, local artists and the public about the environmental benefits of finding creative ways to upcycle single-use materials,” said Fasciana.

Guests at the open house will be able to observe the sculptures being built by the team of artists and enjoy live music from local musicians Sakura and Fat Hen. The team working on the project led by Fasciana consists of local artists Well Dunn, Taj, and Nate B., as well as art students from The College of Saint Rose. Teens enrolled in The Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area have also been invited to shadow the artists and learn about the environmental benefits of upcycling.

“The Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area is always excited to take part in local initiatives that provide valuable experiences for our teens, connecting them with their community. We thank the businesses and artists involved in this project for providing our teens with an engaging opportunity to learn about creative ways to help reduce waste and protect the environment,” said Jimmy Bulman, Director of Development of The Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area.

The project is supported by the Lark Street BID and the sculptures are intended to eventually be displayed publicly in the Lark Street Corridor.

“The diversity and quality of talent among local artists is one the Lark Street area’s defining characteristics that draws creatives to the area and makes us Albany’s most exciting neighborhood to live in. This project and the impact it will have on the students and teens shadowing the artists is a shining example of what can happen when businesses connect with the local arts community, and we’re proud to be lending the project our support,” said Patrick Noonan, Chairman of the Lark Street BID.

After the open house, the project will remain visible to visitors and passers-by, with walk-throughs available by request while artists are working, until the project reaches completion.
